Missing: The Strokes, Libertines and Radiohead

Yes, it’s that time of year when I start scouring the press for lists. My personal favourite game is to play Album of the Year Bingo where you pick the albums you think would be mentioned, then pick the words you think will be mentioned the most and whoever has the most correct guesses wins. So last year, you could have won with Fleet Foxes (harmonious, lyrical) and Elbow (world weary, melancholy) – this year, to be honest, I’m not sure…

Anyway, it being the end of the decade it’s albums of the year time. I own 6 of NME’s choices and 6 of the Observer’s (only 2 are crossover). It’s rather wearing reading nonsense about influence and record sales, so here is a list of 10 albums, all released in the last decade that I really like. Therefore, they are my albums of the decade. (in no particular order)

Elbow – Asleep in the Back
Amy Winehouse – Back to Black
Bruce Springsteen – We Shall Overcome, The Seeger Sessions
I Am Kloot
Doves – Lost Souls
Fleet Foxes
Band of Horses – Cease to Begin
Joan As Policewoman – Real Life
Neko Case – Blacklisted
Richard Hawley – Coles Corner
